How The Food System Works

Food is bait. Every throw sends one food item out to whatever distance your Throw Power allows, and the food you loaded decides which animals are willing to come eat it. The ladder runs from the free Carrot through Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, Secret, Divine, Celestial, Eternal and finally Cosmic rarities — 38 items in total. Better food costs astronomically more (the ladder from $30 to $1.8Dd spans 36 orders of magnitude) and pulls proportionally better animal pools.

The critical thing food does not do is add distance. If your throws fall short of a zone, no food tier fixes that — only training Throw Power does. Conversely, reaching a zone with weak food shows you weak animals no matter how deep you throw. Food decides what comes to dinner; Throw Power decides where the table is. Optimizing the two independently is most of this game's mid-game strategy.

When Each Upgrade Is Actually Worth It

The jump-tier rule: hold your cash until you can afford a full rarity-tier jump, then buy. Buying Toast at $4K when Orange at $20K is two days away wastes cash that pen expansion needs right now. The exception is tier-edge friction — if the animals showing up at your max depth are consistently too weak to fund the next push, stepping one food up instead of one tier up is the cheaper fix. Watch the income gap: if your pen's earnings per second can cover the next food price in under a minute of AFK, you're ready to buy.

Three checkpoints define most players' food progression. The Cheese wall ($1M, Rare tier 3): your first seven-figure purchase, and the moment pen income genuinely starts compounding. The Golden Apple gate ($120Qa, Secret tier 9): where Mythical Paradise's Phoenix and Dragon become realistic targets. And the Cosmic endgame (Ghost Chowder and above): where Phantom Harbor's S-tier ghosts enter the spawn pool and Nuclear Wasteland hunting becomes practical. Between checkpoints, upgrade pen slots and bars before food.

One seasonal note: the Halloween foods (🎃 rows above) were added October 25, 2026, and as of November 8 they're still in shop stock — the developer deleted the event's official end-date listing, so seasonal foods may remain permanently or rotate out in a future update. If you're buying one for its reported perk (Golden Pumpkin for Harvest Fields hunting), don't wait for a confirmation either way; community reports are currently the only data we have.

FAQ

How many foods are in Throw Food For Animals?
38 foods across 16 rarity tiers, from the free starter Carrot (Common, tier 1) to the Phantom Lobster (Cosmic, tier 16) at $1.8Dd. The Halloween Update added five limited-themed foods — Candy Corn, Hot Cider, Golden Pumpkin, Ghost Chowder and Calamari Rings — which sit at tiers 15 and 16.
What is the most expensive food in Throw Food For Animals?
The Phantom Lobster at $1.8Dd (duodecillion) is the most expensive food in the game, followed by Calamari Rings at $200UD and Ghost Chowder at $18UD. Cosmic-tier foods are what you'll use to reliably attract Phantom Harbor's ghost roster including the Ghost Pirate.
When should I buy the next food tier?
Buy when you can afford to jump a full tier, not when you can afford the next single food. Buying every small step wastes cash that training and pen upgrades need — the community-tested rule is to hold cash until the next full rarity tier is affordable, then buy immediately. Food decides which animals come; it never adds throw distance.
Does food rarity affect which animals I attract?
Yes. Rarer foods attract rarer animal pools — that's the food system's entire function. But rarity is the ceiling, not the guarantee: spawn depth rules still apply, so a top-tier food thrown into the front third of a zone still only pulls that zone's rank-4-and-below animals.
Where do I buy food in Throw Food For Animals?
At the Food Shop, the blue-and-white stand just left of your base entrance. Everything on this list is sold there for in-game cash — no food costs Robux. The starter Carrot is pre-equipped and free; the Apple at $30 is your first purchase.
What are the Halloween foods and are they still available?
The October 25, 2026 Halloween Update added Candy Corn ($750No), Hot Cider ($8.5Dc), Golden Pumpkin ($75Dc), Ghost Chowder ($18UD) and Calamari Rings ($200UD) as Eternal and Cosmic tier foods. Community testing reports Golden Pumpkin gives the best odds for Harvest Fields animals. Availability depends on whether the seasonal stock stays after the event window — the developer deleted the update's official end-date listing, so seasonal items were still in the shop as of early November.
What's the difference between food tiers and food rarity?
Rarity is the label (Common through Cosmic); tier is the ladder position (1 through 16). They track together — every step up the tier ladder generally means a higher rarity — but the practical unit of progression is the tier, because a tier jump is when the animal pool noticeably upgrades. When guides say 'buy a full tier,' that's the unit they mean.
Is the Phantom Lobster worth buying for Nuclear Wasteland hunting?
It's the current endgame ticket. The Wasteland's rare pools sit behind Cosmic-tier food, and the Phantom Lobster ($1.8Dd) is the tier's top — Ghost Chowder ($18UD) opens the pool more cheaply, with the Lobster as the upgrade once income supports it. Buy the tier before the flagship, per the jump-tier rule.
